In 2003, non-governmental organisations were allocated € 166,76 million of public funds. In 2022 they were allocated € 539,3 million.
Of this, they received € 513,22 million from direct and indirect budget users (ministries, municipalities, Financial administration of the Republic of Slovenia, public agencies and institutes), and € 26,09 million from the Foundation for Funding Disability and Humanitarian Organizations (FIHO) and the Foundation for Funding Sports Organisations of Slovenia (FŠO). Of all funds remitted by budget users, 60,63 % (€ 311,16 million) were allocated to non-governmental organisations to which the state has acknowledged to be acting in the public interest. Data on public funding of non-governmental organisations is based on the Treasury data on cash flows between the state (ministries, government departments, agencies, municipalities, public institutes, etc.) and non-governmental organisations (societies, institutes and institutions). The data also comprise data on society branches, on youth councils, and on religious communities having the humanitarian organisation status. The data exclude the associations, institutes and foundations that have been established by the Republic of Slovenia, municipalities or other public sector entities.
